a girl can dream: august...........

There is only one thing I've been dreaming about this month.........

This scarf print bomber jacket by Aussie label Cue, ever since I laid eyes on it earlier this month I just
cannot stop thinking about it. It simply must be a part of my wardrobe!!

this just in: now that's a statement.......

Let me tell you a little story.
It starts with a young woman, ok it's me, doing a little shopping, killing time with a friend before dinner,
when I spot this AMAZING necklace, glorious in it's extravagance
and colour and sparkle. But I showed incredible restraint and didn't buy the necklace!

A few more weeks pass, in that time I have told just about everyone I know about the necklace and how spectacular it is. Finally I decided, to hell with it, I'm gonna get me that necklace!
I jumped online, while simultaneously whipping out the trusty credit card,
and much to my horror I find the necklace is sold out online!!
What's a girl to do but head to the land of the sold out, discontinued line and seasons past.......Ebay!
Miraculously, in a turn of events clearly planned by the fashion gods themselves, I found the necklace, in brand new condition, never worn! So I swooped in and snapped it up and sighed a very large sigh of relief.
A few days later the necklace lands in the mailbox and I am deliriously happy.

The End!

And what's the moral of this story dear readers, if you find something that you love,
and not just kind of fond of love, but real all encompassing love then you NEED to get it!
Lest you find yourself in the same situation as me!

In the interest of good storytelling here is the necklace at the centre of this drama.

leopard + plaid......

Took these pictures a few days ago on an uncannily warm and sunny winters day.
Posting them now makes me want for the warmth of summer so bad.

Snapped up this Vintage Sportsgirl plaid shirt on ebay a while ago and as is my custom had to alter it in some way. So I removed the sleeves and widened the armholes and it's now a perfect layering piece for winter and a killer cool top for summer. Quite fond of these leopard print jeans, but I'm considering adding a little colour to them for summer, I'll keep you posted.

Happy Sunday!!

currently crushing: going baroque.......

Perhaps it's fashion's response to a bleaker economic time, perhaps it's not.
Perhaps everyone just ran out black and grey cashmere and just had to make do with what was left.
Whatever, either way I'm digging the return of embellishment, of drama, of excess.
It's goodbye to sleek lines and minimal dressing, hello crazy town.
Say what you will, but I love me something a little shiny.

The standout for me of Fall 2012 was the perfectly extravagant and effortlessly cool at the same time, Balmain embellishment, especially on the boxy jackets, did someone say must have amazing......

Gold embroidered storks and dragons at Dries Van Noten, OTT florals and more gold, lots more gold at Dolce and Gabbana. And I think that pretty much confirms how grand baroque is.
No go forth and paint the town gold, embellish everything you own and rock it!

parka + lace.......

Cost per wear, this jacket would have to be free by now. I wear it all the time with just about anything.
Hands down my greatest purchase from my Las Vegas trip earlier this year.
Paired it with a new purchase, my first blue/white striped top ever!
I know! Crazy right, a wardrobe staple that just never made it's way into my closet.
I like to think I was just waiting for this particular top. The blue is that lovely shade of not quite navy blue and the white is actually white lace which is ridiculously awesome.
And also perfect for the wearing of a neon bra under, which is exactly what I did!

And I'm totally rocking my amazingly awesome new ASOS sunnies, LOVE LOVE LOVE them!
They have quickly made their way to the top of the sunnies tree, and I have a feeling they might be hanging around up there for a little while!!

this just in: camo + jewels.....

Camouflage or as it's more commonly know 'camo' is popping up everywhere from jackets to pants and clutches. To be honest I don't think it ever really went away so much as took a little vacation, away from the prying eyes of us fashion folks, which I totally get cause we can be a little obsessive, (well I can be anyhow!)

So I got a little inspired by the return of camo and took myself off to my local army surplus store, where I managed to snag myself a brilliant oversized shirt which I plan on using as a jacket.
Not happy to just let it be I had to add my own personal touch, a little splash of Kirby Bee if you will!
Those of you following me on Instagram will have seen a little sneak peek of what I was up to last week and here is the finished product for your viewing pleasure!!

It seriously took me forever to get those jewels all glued on, so this is certainly a DIY to
save for when you have plenty of spare time!

Can't wait to throw this on over a white tank and denim cut offs in summer, but for now while winter is still hanging around I'm thinking black skinnies and some killer heels!!

Hope you've had a brilliant weekend. I enjoyed some much needed time with some good friends, which has put me in an excellent mood to start the new week!!

currently crushing: cobalt blue.......

There were sprinkles of it at Balenciaga, Celine and Erdem Fall RTW 2012 and great gorgeous chunks at Stella McCartney Fall RTW 2012, it's Cobalt Blue and I'm seriously crushing on this beautiful colour right now.

As winter slowly wraps up on this side of the world I'm looking forward to getting some of this bright colour in my wardrobe, the shorts and clutch are definitely possibilities but I'm thinking the other three might have to rest their laurels on my wish list for the moment.

And here are the details.......from top left features a wool sweater by Stella McCartney, sparkly toed suede loafers by the one the only Nicholas Kirkwood (these are crazy crazy good!!), ASOS clutch, crepe blazer by Joseph and scalloped edge shorts from Forever New.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go scour the www's and see what other cobalt-y goodness I can find!!

sporty black......

In the spirit of the Olympics, yes I know it's the last day but sometimes it take me a little longer to jump aboard with new shit, anyway I figured I'd try and get a little sporty and rock my vintage fluro Adidas singlet.
This is probably about as sporty as I get, I'm the academic/creative in my family and leave all that
matching team outfits, running and jumping and what have you to my siblings!

These leather loafers get a fair work out, I wear them a lot to work and they are super comfy, plus they make the awesome clicky clack sound that heels make, so that lifts their cool factor quite significantly!! And again with the cropped black denim, what can I say I love me a cropped pant!!

Hope you've all had a fantastical weekend!!

diy: neon necklace........

This neon necklace featured in this post. As promised here is the DIY. It's a super super quick necklace to make, you will literally do in five minutes!

You'll need:
Some neon string/rope/thread, whatever you want to use, I used a thin rope
Jump rings
Clasps
Leather clamps
Pliers
Beads

First things first, cut four pieces of neon rope to your desired size, short if you want a choker and a little longer for a belly button grazer of a necklace.

Secure two pieces of rope using the leather clamps, do this another three times and you end up with two pieces of string clamped at each end.

Thread your beads on both sets of rope.

Add jump rings to the leather clamps and then attach a clasp and your done!

Hope you're having a great week!!

currently crushing: bam! pow!........

Vintage Batman and Robin, does it get any better?
That was a rhetorical questions folks, I just know it can't.
I seriously wish life came with such colourful shots of BAM! and POW! and KERPLASH!, tell me that wouldn't make doing whatever it is you have to do sooooo much easier and just more fun, and we love our fun over here.

Which brings me to my current crush/obsession/desire to own.......
Phillip Lim is the shit right now, his graphic prints are amazingly incredibly awesome!!!

And while Lim's prints are inspired by American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein and not Batman and Robin, I personally like my bam's and pow's to be delivered accompanied by a grey bodysuit and a black cape and a sidekick in forest green short shorts of course, you know cause we're all about fun!!
And what is more fun than a bodysuit and cape?? Or a sidekick in short shorts??
(another two rhetorical questions, the answer to both of which is nothing just FYI)
So BAM! KAPOW! SNAP!
Happy Sunday!!

denim + burgundy........

I think it's fairly clear now that I'm just a little into burgundy, yes I posted about my crush here,
but I just can't seem to stop buying burgundy! This skirt basically threw itself at me,
I just had to take it home. The weather being a little chilly right now (bring on spring!!)
I paired it with my Tony Bianco boots and a denim shirt but I'm sooooo looking forward
to some warmer weather to really rock this burgundy beauty!!

Happy Friday!!

a girl can dream: july.......

My obsession with menswear has certainly been influencing my dreams this past month,
it's all about oxford shirts, boxy ankle boots and metallic brogues......

Tan ankle boots are courtesy of Mulberry,
Bling from ASOS, striped shirt from Mango
and metallic brogues from Marni (seriously how amazing are they!!!)
